With Bourbon street being a craze of party people celebrating bachs and birthdays, New Orleans is well-known as a go to for parties and celebrations. But it’s not all bar hopping on bourbon street. The city has a rich history, southern charm, great live music, and amazing food scene that makes it an easy choice for any type of girls trip (even if you’re not looking to party 24/7).

Here are our favorite recommendations for eating, drinking, & live music, based on a handful of successful girls trips or bachelorette party over the years (and recommendations from a New Orleans native):

"Off-the-beaten-path", Local Favorites

When you're tired of Bourbon street and the French Quarter, check out these favorites for food, drink, and live music as provided by a New Orleans local, and Jetty approved for group trips!

The Country Club

If you’re looking for a great brunch with great vibes that isn’t just another tourist trap, this is a popular spot for both locals and visitors due to its unique blend of amenities. The restaurant bar has it roots as a gay staycation spot, and still attracts a strong LGBTQ crowd to the gorgeous salt water pool out back. But it's a mixed crowd that frequents the excellent restaurant up front as well as the freewheeling pool scene.

Do a Bourbon Street Bar Crawl:

No New Orleans trip is complete without bar hopping on Bourbon street. Here’s a list of fun bars on the street (ordered by location/proximity to each other!)

Start off at Carousel bar & make your way down:

  • The Carousel Bar & Lounge (particularly for newbies) - circular bar rotates like a carousel, hard to get seats though; can skip if people who haven’t been don’t care about it. It’s just one of those “you should visit here” places if it’s your first time.
  • 21st Amendment Bar at La Louisiane - prohibition style bar, craft cocktails
  • Old Absinthe House (must do for absinthe, duh)
  • Erin Rose - famous for frozen Irish coffees (they are so yummy!!)
  • Pat O’Brien’s - known for hurricanes (should do for people who have never been to NOLA, have alligator bites), we’ll most likely end up there anyway just because there’s two of them on bourbon
  • World Famous Cat’s Meow (MUST DO FOR KARAOKE!!!) - sign up list for karaoke is long.
  • Tropical Isle: festive beads & “Hand Grenade” Cocktail
  • Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar (oldest bar, since 1700s serving beers & frozen drinks)
We recommend: Do a day bar crawl, you'll have more time to make your way through the street while stopping at different places& make improptu detours that catch your eye along the way. Karaoke on the girls trip is a must do!

Bougie Splurges

If you're looking to treat yourself, or keep the bougie friend(s) in the group happy, these recommendations may break the bank, but are definitely worth checking out.
